We have officially kicked off our first annual Best Senior Linked In Profile Contest!!

Seniors, if you do not have a LinkedIn profile (and I have already met with a few of you that don't) NOW is the time to make one and enter our contest!!

Why? Because you can win COOL prizes!
1st: Kindle Touch
2nd: USF Gift Basket ($50 value)
3rd: USF Leather Portfolio
*must have Ellen Kelly Daley as a connection and mention in a personal message that you would like to be considered in the running.

As if that's not incentive enough! Here are some of the benefits LinkedIn also has to offer:

- BRANDING: It allows you to market yourself in a professional manner.
- RESEARCH: It allows you to look up organizations in which you may be interested and offers the opportunity to communicate with the employers, recruiters and people who work for that company via messages.
- JOBS: Some employers may post job openings in their companies and if you have them as a connection you will be the first to see it!
- NETWORKING: You can connect with poeple and companies that are relevant to your job search, ask questions and even set up an informational interview.
- INVOLVEMENT/CONNECTIONS: You can join groups that interest you or are relevant to the work you are looking to do. You can also start discussions and post to them.

Last day to submit your profile is April 22nd!

Get in on the best kept Jesuit secret!

Hello, all!

So, you are graduating and moving somewhere new. Or MAYBE you are not graduating quite yet and going home for the Summer. Trying to find a job can be tough, but it might be a little easier if you take advantage of your Jesuit University opportunities. Stand back because I’m about to share with you one of the community’s best kept secrets: The Reciprocity Program. If you were headed to or near St. Louis, and would like to see the their “DonsCareers” job postings, all you would have to do follow the instructions below. There are 27 Jesuit Universities in the U.S. participating in this program (Georgetown does not participate in Reciprocity) , use your resources! Every University’s reciprocity program is different, you may be able to use it free or for a small fee.
Here is CSC's reciprocity policy to give you an idea of what a reciprocity policy is.
CSC Reciprocity of Services
Who is eligible to receive reciprocal services?
* Alumni from other Jesuit and private colleges/universities are potential reciprocal students.
* Alumni from the University of California and California State University systems receive reciprocity within their own systems.

What does reciprocity include?
* We have two levels of Reciprocity services.

Level One entitles alumni from other institutions access to CSC’s job listings database, DonsCareers. The annual fee for this is $50.

Level Two entitles alumni from other institutions access to CSC’s job listings database, DonsCareers, as well as access to CSC workshops, handouts, career fairs, one drop-in (15 minutes) session, and one individual counseling session (50 minutes). It does not include On-Campus Interviews. The annual fee for this is $100.

How do individuals receive reciprocal services?
* Their school's career services center must send the CSC a letter indicating that the alumni's home college/university will provide reciprocal access to USF students (usually for a fee).
* We require a letter by email for each graduate from that school seeking access to our services.
* We ask that the alumni seeking reciprocity contact CSC indicating that level of service they wish to receive and submit cash or check for fees.

SKYPE INTERVIEWS

Skype Interviews???? Is this really happening??? We are moving into the future and things are changing rapidly and the use of technology is growing. Skype interviews are becoming more and more popular. I recently had a Skype interview with a company back home in Hawaii for a summer internship. It was my second Skype interview and still difficult to master. Skype interviews seem to be the in-between interview of phone interviews and in-person interviews, but in my opinion are more difficult than both.

First off, in a phone interview you do not need to see the person you are talking with and you can take the interview where ever you please, unlike a Skype interview. Because they get to see you, you need to hold this interview in a professional atmosphere, making it extremely difficult. Second, it is harder than an in-person interview because of the difficulty of connecting with the person sitting on the other side of the screen, due to lag time and physical connection.

Although I find Skype interviews to be very difficult, it gives hopeful employees an opportunity to apply and receive an interview even if they are thousands of miles away.  Skype interviews can be scary and tricky, but there are opportunities to excel and improve your Skype interviewing skills. So stop by drop in hours to talk about Skype interviews or interviews in general!
